Sg Bedaun residential project expected to start next year

SANTUBONG: The second generation of villagers from Kampung Panglima Seman Lama, Kampung Semarang and Kampung Pulo Ulu will be given a chance to own a low cost home at the Sungai Bedaun residential development project.

The project site which sits on a 195-acre land along Jalan Sultan Tengah will be able to accommodate at least 508 units of mixed residential properties for the low income group and those eligible under PPRT (Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor).

Spearheaded by the Land Custody and Development Authority (Pelita) and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW), the project is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2018 and completed within two years.

“This project is slated to be a modern village (concept) where the houses are properly arranged as well as becoming a new model for PPRT,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who was briefed on the project at the site yesterday.

He said the land for the project was provided by the state government while Pelita was tasked with constructing the basic utilities and infrastructure. Construction of the houses which vary in area from 10 to 12 points will however be under KKLW.

Pelita general manager Datu Sajeli Kipli, when speaking to reporters after the briefing, said the project is part of the Darul Hana re-development which covers all the 12 villages along the Sarawak River.

“KKLW is expected to build 200 units of houses in the first phase while the remaining houses (302 units) will be built in the second and final phase,” said Sajeli.

He further disclosed that the earliest time for the project to commence is in April next year.

Phase one of the Darul Hana project is currently ongoing with the construction of Blocks 1A and 2A involving more than 480 units of houses and is expected to be completed in early 2020.

Also present at the briefing were KKLW Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, KKLW Deputy Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister of Natura l Resources and Environment Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
